Investigating the failure of VFDs operation and coupling damage of cooling towers at the airport site.

How did KFAS help with funding your project?

With the aid of the Innovation Research Voucher (IRV) scheme awarded here at the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), UPAC approached KFAS and applied for funding support to solve the problems which happened during the operation of cooling towers fans motors at the variable frequency drives mode. KFAS provided 7,000 KD for research investigation and equipment.

What was the STI related solution needed for your product?

Successful operation solution for cooling towers fans at VFDs mode to contribute in electricity and water savings.

How did this affect your company?

It increases the savings in water and electricity which are consumed by cooling towers. The new variable frequency drives and the new temperature sensor which was installed at the CTs leaving water to the VFDs directly has insured safe operation at the VFD mode.

Would you reapply for KFAS programs and would you recommend KFAS programs to other companies?

Yes. KFAS programs are highly valuable and contribute in Electricity and water conservation.
