KFAS received a delegation from Harvard University - John F. Kennedy School of Government invited to conduct a workshop at the Foundation’s headquarters on 22 March entitled: Technology in the GCC: Building Research Capacity and Vital Linkages”.

The workshop aims to present and discuss the results of the research project funded by the Foundation under Kuwait Program at Harvard Kennedy School of Government, on the progress in science and technology and the links between universities and the industrial sector in the Gulf.

Four speakers from Harvard University and three from Kuwait participated in the workshop. The workshop was attended by academics and professionals from universities, public and private research centers, and a number of entities interested in enhancing the linkage between scientific research and industrial development in the region.

The Director of the Office of International Programs at KFAS - Engineer Yousef Al-Mazidi said:  "The aim of this project is to stimulate local dialogue on national policies and strategies of local universities and private sector enterprises, on one hand, and to support competencies in national research centers, on the other. The strategic goal is to create an enabling environment to meet national needs of viable and effective research in science and engineering."

It is worth mentioning that this workshop comes in the context of the Foundation’s leadership of national dialogue on the development of research production in Kuwait, both in quantity and quality, to increase the ratio of Kuwait's support of scientific research in the public expenditure, which is one of the most important indicators of competitiveness and sustainable development.
